James D. Miller, Jr. “Jim”, 91, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. Born and raised in Big Stone Gap, VA, he carried the values of his upbringing throughout his life—honesty, humility, and devotion to family. He moved to Kingsport in the 1960s after accepting a position with the United States Postal Service, where he faithfully served his community for more than 50 years. His quiet strength, steady work ethic, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew him.
He found his greatest joy in his family. Whether gathered around the table, celebrating milestones, or cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers, he cherished every moment spent together. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of home.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, James D. Miller, Sr., and Cleo Miller.
Left to carry his memory forward are his sister, Virginia Kite; his sons, Jimmy Miller (Peggy) and Jeffrey Miller (Jennifer); his daughter, Lisa Herndon (Tripp); and six grandchildren who adored him: Megan Miller, Christopher Herndon, Brooke Miller, Matthew Miller, Jennifer Barnwell (Grayson), and Rachel Miller. He is also survived by his niece, Kimber Gedman (Steve).
A private service will be held with his children and grandchildren, who will continue to honor him by living out the love, loyalty, and commitment to family he showed every day.
