Janet Kay Shaffer (Salyer)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, Janet Kay Shaffer, 73, of Kingsport, TN, on July 21, 2026. Janet was a beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose love, kindness and strength, for everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had a heart that welcomed everyone and gave selflessly unconditional love. Her laughter, warm hugs and loving spirit made every house feel like home. Janet found joy in the simple moments, time spent with family, celebrating milestones, and creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, William and Geneva Light; sister, Carol Topping; niece, Janet Nicole Salisbury; and nephew, Billy Layne.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Bill Salyer; children, Terry Shaffer “Junior” and wife, Ana Shaffer, and Tonya Kay Shaffer; grandchildren, Sierra Nachole Tague, Nicholas William Shaffer, Christian Enrique Shaffer and Brayden Lee Shaffer; great-grandchild, Dakota Lee Baxter; siblings, Sue Layne, Tammy Williams, Diane Mullins, Juanita Light, Steve Light and Joyce Jarvis; nieces, Brianna Salisbury, Natasha Stutlien, Chelsea Titus, Stephanie Mullins, Angela Jarvis, Christina Jarvis, Andrea Sigmon, Laura Herald, Sarah Wiley, Erica Eubanks, Mia Topping, and Lexie Topping; nephews, Zachary Williams, Lyle Topping II, Paul Topping, William Salisbury, Andrew Mullins, Chad Huffman, Michael Layne, and Scott Layne; brothers-in-law, Gary Salyer and Jeff Salyer; sisters-in-law, Anita Salyer and Linda Bridges; and her beloved dog, Edward.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
