Janie Faye Bland Ellis

Janie Faye Bland Ellis, 94, of Kingsport, entered into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, May 25, 2025. She was born in Scott Co., VA, on March 6, 1931, to the late Remus Watson and Mary Tate Bland. Janie was the third born of nine siblings. She worked as a secretary for Abernathy-Thomas for over 40 years. Janie was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed sewing and tending to her flowers. She was known for her positive outlook on life and her heart of forgiveness. Janie was a longtime member of Colonial Heights UMC, joining in the 1970’s. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Earl Ellis; infant daughter, Doris; and siblings, Mary, Eva, Earl and Wayne.

Janie is survived by her daughter, Donna Huff and husband Steve; son, Roger Keith Ellis and wife Michelle; grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Theresa Huff, Adam and Alicia Ellis, Benjamin and Emily Ellis, Anna and Sam Buisch, Isaac and Emilea Ellis, and Jacob and Anna Ellis; 25 great-grandchildren; siblings, Frances Ellis, Eugene Bland, Harvey Bland, and David Bland; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; friend, Sherry Estep; and special caregivers, Susan Pendleton, Alice Begley, and Connie Lane.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m with Pastor Jeremiah Mooney officiating.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Wills Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to gather at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m.

Pallbearers will be family.
