Jerry Raymond Hubbard

Jerry Raymond Hubbard, 90, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2026. Jerry was born in Thomasville, N.C. in his grandfather, Jack Hubbard’s house on December 23, 1935. His family moved to Kingsport in 1940. Jerry attended Kingsport City Schools and graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School in 1954. He then graduated from East Tennessee State College in 1960 with a B.S. in Social Sciences. Jerry went on to gain a Chemical Engineering degree from ICS and completed additional graduate courses in Instrumental Analysis. He had a strong work ethic, beginning work as a Times News Paper Carrier at 12 years old. Jerry continued in various jobs through his teens including Joe Tipton’s Men’s Store. After college he worked at Holston Defense Corp before being transferred to Eastman Chemical Company, from which he retired in 2001.

He held many professional responsibilities including Chairman of the local section of ASQ, where he was a member for over 50 years, President of TN Quality Coalition; Program Director for the Knoxville Clinic, team member for development of the TN Quality Award, and Assessor for the TN Quality Award. His civic contributions include sales member of Barter Theater Board and Board member of Kingsport Community Concerts. Jerry was a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America starting with Troop 54, achieving Order of the Arrow during high school. As an adult he was Cub Master of Pack 54, Assistant Scout Master of Troop 250, attended Philmont Scout Ranch in 1980, and Scout Master of Troop 250 (1981- 1982). Jerry was President of Andrew Johnson Elementary School PTA and served on the board of directors for Hope Haven.

He joined First Baptist Church in 1942 where he was a member. Throughout the years he served in various positions including Church Training Director, Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, Director of Adult Division of Sunday School, and a member of the Men’s Sunday School class where he often taught as a substitute.

He enjoyed living in the Pendleton Place Community where he participated in the HOA as a board member, Architectural Committee Chairman and Treasurer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elma Hubbard; and sister, Judith A. Rutledge.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosa Lee Hubbard; children, Jere Sue Cunningham (Andy), Paige Hubbard, and Andrew L. Hubbard; grandchildren, Alexandra Gooch (Dylan), Cydne Haynes, Bradleigh Haynes, Rachel Meeks (Sam), Mary Claire Blickenstaff (Chad), Andie Ferguson (Andy), Jacob Hubbard, and Annalee Hubbard; great-grandchildren, Liam Steinman, Elliot Meeks, Rhealeigh Watters, and Griffin Ferguson; siblings, Ronald Hubbard and James W. Hubbard (Jane); and sister, Linda A. Hubbard.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Marvin Cameron officiating.

There will be a private family service at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
