Joan Cowden Weatherly

Joan Cowden Weatherly, 97, of Kingsport, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026. Born in Norton, VA, she was a graduate of Sullivan High School. Joan worked for the Kingsport Press where she met her late husband, Samuel. She also spent many years as a medical assistant. Joan had a green thumb and found great joy in tending to her garden and growing food for her family. Joan was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful mother, wife, and friend to many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Weatherly, Jr.; and all of her siblings.

Joan is survived by her son, Sam C. Weatherly.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at East Lawn Memorial Park.
