John “Johnny” M. Line, 85, of Kingsport, passed away Monday, March 2, 2026. John lived a life marked by faith, integrity and devotion, both to God and to those he loved. There was never a more honest man on the face of the earth. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport, where he served as a deacon and several other positions. He most enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity, singing with Sounds of Faith, the sanctuary choir, and working with the wood ministry of Broad Street United Methodist Church.
John graduated from Holston High School in Knoxville, Carson-Newman University and Virginia Tech. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Holston Defense and Tennessee Eastman for 30 years. John’s gentle spirit, steady presence and willingness to help others, characterized his life.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clifford and Addie Line; son, James Christopher Line; and daughter, Martha Elizabeth Line.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 64 years, Martha Line; son, John Eric Line (Leslie); daughter, Kathryn E. Sparks (Chris); grandchildren, Joseph Hale (Heather), Amy Kimsey (Laken), Sarah Sparks (DJ) and Benjamin Sparks; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Kingsport. The family will receive friends following the service in the church atrium.
