John "Papaw" Greer

John "Papaw" Greer

John Papaw Greer, 66, Beech Creek Community, went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, November 28, 2018, following an extended period of poor health. Born in Kingsport, John had lived in Beech Creek for most of his life. He was an iron worker for Flour Daniels Contractors, retiring after 38 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan Elaine Greer; parents, Edgar and Louise Greer; 2 sisters; and 1 brother.

John is survived by his daughter, Echo Brooke Penley; sons, Jeremiah Greer, William Greer and wife, Tina, Josh Greer and wife, Michelle, and Philip Greer and wife, Sherah; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Laura Ball and husband, Johnny; brother, James Greer and wife, Joyce; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Dustin Wallen officiating.

The graveside service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 pm at East Tennessee Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
