Kay Huddle Ladd

Kay Huddle Ladd entered peacefully into eternal rest at the age of 82 following a long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Her husband was at her side. Kay was born on April 27, 1943. She was the only child of the late Kyle and Ethel Huddle. She resided in Kingsport her entire life. She attended Dobyns Bennett High School through her junior year. While at DB she was in the band and was a majorette. Her senior year, she attended Gulf Park Junior College where she graduated in the class of ‘62. After high school she attended college at Tennessee Technological University. There she met Wayne Ladd. Kay and Wayne married on November 30, 1963 having celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Kay will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who had an endearing love for the Lord. She would sit before the Lord, hear His voice, and write what He said in her journals. She was a mentor to many women throughout her life by sharing what she had heard from the Lord. She believed “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

Kay loved to dance. She began at a very early age and spent hours at the Reese Touey School of dance eventually becoming a tap dance instructor until her sons came along.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kyle and Ethel Huddle; and a son, Kevin Huddle Ladd.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wayne Ladd; sons, Barry Ladd (wife Terry) of Weaverville, NC and Shane Ladd (wife Kimberly) of Johnson City, TN; granddaughter, Kaitlin Carden (husband Anders) of Supply, NC; and “adopted sister”, Jeanice Ladd Walters of Lexington, AL (husband Dr. Don Walters).

The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 3:30 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted in the chapel after the receiving of friends with Terry Whitson officiating. Burial will precede services at Gunnings Cemetery in Blountville with family members attending.
