He grew up on the east side of Allendale, where he spent the first 24 years of his life on the farm. Bud was a 1954 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and earned his bachelor’s degree at East Tennessee State College on June 6, 1958. The following day, June 7, 1958, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Clark, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mt. Carmel. Bud served in the Army from 1958 to 1960; he was stationed at Fort Jackson, Fort Still and Giessen, Germany.
Over the years, Bud worked for the Kingsport Press, Holston Defense and ultimately retired from Eastman Chemical Company. Bud joined #844 Engineer Reserves in 1960. Growing up on the farm influenced his love for animals, especially horses. He noted himself as a “lifetime horseman.” He enjoyed events such as The Walking Horse Celebration, The Saddle Horse Finals, Rodeos in Texas and horse races in Frankfurt, Germany.
Bud loved music of all kinds, especially bluegrass and gospel. He attended many concerts throughout the years.
