Kenneth "Wayne" McAmis

Kenneth Wayne McAmis, age 80, passed away December 19, 2023 at his home in Carrollton, Georgia following an extended battle with numerous health issues.  Born August 24, 1943 in Kingsport, Tennessee, Wayne was the son of the late Roy and Iva Hensley McAmis.

Wayne graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1965 and shortly after joined Southwire Company.  His dedicated career spanned 36 years during which he held a variety of positions.  From a management trainee, he worked his way up to plant manager of the Carrollton Building Wire Plant, manufacturing vice president, senior vice president and general manager of Southwire’s wire and cable division, executive vice president of all Southwire production operations and ultimately COO of Southwire Company.  He retired in 2001.

In his professional life, Wayne was known for his laser focus, tenacious drive, eye for perfection and dedicated work ethics.  In his personal life, he was committed to a healthy active lifestyle that included running, tennis and biking.  Most importantly, though, Wayne was passionate in his philanthropic efforts.  Among his many charitable causes was Carrollton’s former ARC organization.  Wayne provided strong personal and monetary support for this organization, as well as the Special Olympics and many others.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 18 years, Jo V. McAmis; daughter and son-in-law, Mikie McAmis Gause (Greg) of Newnan, Georgia; grandson Elias Gause (Amanda); great grandson Raylan Gause; sisters, Nancy Slagle, Evelyn Bales, Avis Reid; and countless nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Don (Janet) McAmis and brother-in-law Jack Bales and his beloved dog Mandy.
