Lanny Smith

Lanny Smith, 68, of Rogersville, gained his Heavenly Wings on Thursday, August 28, 2025, following an extended period of poor health. Born in Greene County, Tennessee, where he lived until moving to Hawkins County. Lanny was a maintenance electrician having worked at TRW, Hutchinson, and Artazn Zinc, from which he retired. He served in the U.S. Army and Desert Storm where he was a First Sergeant. Lanny was a member of Beech Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Smith; children, Jamie Light and Ginger, Dustin Light and Rebekah, and Jeremy Light; grandchildren, Alex and Jazz, Siera, Jacob, Keegan and Katie, Nate, and Jeremy; several step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren; brother, Willis and Judy Smith; sister, Dottie and Wilbur Wells; sister-in-law, Shawna and Lester; brother-in-law, Todd and Rachael; special nephew, Kaleb; other nephews, Carter, Eli, and Grant; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Beech Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Rogersville with Nathan Wheeler officiating.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Flag Presentation and Taps by Virginia National Guard.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
