Larry Lyon, 84, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, formerly of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on March 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on March 16, 1941, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, Larry was a man who showed up for his family, for his community, and for anyone who needed him. A faithful member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church, his faith was a quiet, steady part of who he was. He proudly served his country in the United States National Guard and built a career with Sprint before retiring. After retirement, he worked part time at Adessa Auto Auction in Fall Branch, Tennessee.
Larry was a devoted father who never missed a chance to be part of his son's life. Whatever sport Jason played, Larry was there, not just in the stands, but on the field as his coach. He brought that same dedication to everything he did.
He is now joyfully reunited with his parents, his siblings, and all those who went before him, along with every four-legged friend he ever loved. He was "Pops" to every dog who crossed his threshold, and we know Carissa, Hubert, Pal, and his best boy Buckley, were there to greet him. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and John Lyon; sister, Betty Hall; brother-in-law, Bill Hall, brother-in-law, J.D. Odom, sister-in-law, Betty Odom; brother, Dick Lyon, sister-in-law, Joan Droke; and in-laws Dana and Mary Ruth Odom.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Sue; son, Jason and daughter-in-law Jessica; grand-dogs, Bowie and June, all of Chattanooga; brother-in-law, Wayne Droke; sister-in-law, Kathy Lyon; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Lynn Garden Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m with Pastor Rick Meade officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local animal shelter or to Lynn Garden Baptist Church's memorial fund or J.A.M. Ministry.
