Margaret Fausold

Margaret Penn Fausold Watkins (known by her nickname 'Poggy'), 99, passed away September 20, 2023, at Holston Rehabilitation and Care Center. A native of Kingsport, she was the daughter of George E. Penn, Jr., and Mary Summers Penn, and was a direct descendent of the Quaker William Penn on her father's side. She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C. Margaret left Kingsport as a bride in 1947 and returned as a widow in 1983, after an absence of 36 years. In 1998 she married James B. Watkins.

 

Margaret was a member of The Delphian Club, Little House & Garden Club and The Kingsport Junior Book Club. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Throughout her life she made friends wherever she lived, and her engaging personality was remembered fondly by even casual acquaintances. She was a true Southern Lady, much loved and deeply missed. 

 

Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mrs. O. A. (Mary) Thaxton, Mrs. D.M. (Nancy) Holsenback, and Estelle Penn, and by husbands, William E. Fausold and James B. Watkins.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Alyson Fausold of Seattle, WA; son, William P. Fausold of Abingdon, VA; two stepchildren, Anne Watkins Tolley of Fall Branch, TN and James J. Watkins of Kingsport, TN and several nieces and nephews.

 

Services will be announced later.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
