Martha Emelyn Carroll Helvey

Martha Emelyn Carroll Helvey of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 22, 2024 at the age of 89. She was born on March 24, 1935 to parents, Fred and Cecile Carroll. Martha met and married the love of her life, Charles Helvey, with whom she enjoyed 50 wonderful years. She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1952 and from ETSU in 1956, with a degree in Elementary Education. Later, she continued her education and earned her Masters Plus 45 degree. She taught school for 32 years, mostly at Rock Springs Elementary School, retired and then returned to the school system as an Interventionist for 4 years. She loved teaching and her students so much, was known to go “above and beyond” just educating them. She loved watching TN Volunteer sports and also the TN Titans. She loved her family and showed it by taking care of her parents in their later years, taking care of her husband in sickness, spending a lot of time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, giving life advise from her wisdom and always being there when she was needed. She could always be counted on to “come up with” a funny quip.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles Helvey; and parents, Fred and Cecil Carroll.

Those left to cherish her memory are son, Chuck Helvey and wife Tammy; grandchildren, Josh Helvey and wife, Sarah, and Branson Helvey; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Sadie and Lucy Helvey; sister, Joann Carroll Murray; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 12:00pm – 1:00pm at Rock Springs Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm with Pastor Harry Layell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
