Mary Lotus McConnell Good

Mary Lotus McConnell Good, 99, Kingsport, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014. She was born in the Big Moccasin Community of Scott County, VA on April 14, 1915. She was delivered by her grandmother Eliza Culbertson McConnell and was the daughter of William Sevier and Martha Frances Smith Francisco McConnell. Mary belonged to Sallie's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Weber City, VA for over 57 years. She gave the Sunday School Report there for many years. She loved crocheting afghans and making craft projects.

Lotus graduated from Nickelsville High School in 1936. She went to Richmond, VA to take nurses training and ended up taking cosmetology. She worked as a hairdresser in Gate City, Weber City and Kingsport for many years. Lotus moved to Kingsport, TN in 1966 and was a hairdresser for a while then became a seamstress until she retired at age 92.

Lotus was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Eugene Good (2003); parents William Sevier McConnell (1934) and Martha Frances "Pattie" Smith Francisco McConnell (1923); brother William Francis McConnell (1945); half-brother James Edward Francisco, Sr. (1995); sister Edna Alice Phillips (2007); sisters-in-law Ethel Francisco, Hazel McConnell, Lotus Taylor and Margie Good; brother-in-law J.C. Hartsock, C.J. Phillips, Jr., Henry Taylor, Isaac Taylor, Walter Taylor, Edgar Scott and Lloyd Frazier; nephews Tommy Taylor, Gerald Taylor, Lowell "Bud" Taylor, Calvin Frazier and Mark Lee Phillips and niece Joyce Frazier.

Surviving are her son William Patton Lee "Pat" Good; daughter Carolyn Phyllis Irvin; three grandchildren Sherri L. Rogers, Danny L. Irvin and wife, Sarah and Patrick S. Good and wife, Margaret; great grandchildren Jeremiah Millspaugh, Tyler Irvin, Kyle Irvin, Brianne Good, and Brandon Good; step great-grandchildren Joseph Smith and Candice White; brother Ubert L. McConnell; sister Eliza M. Hartsock and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 10 am at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA with Pastor George Winegar officiating.
