Maynard Gene Tedder

Maynard Gene Tedder, 89, a devout Christian from Kingsport, TN, returned to God on July 22, 2026. He was born in Kingsport, TN in 1936 to Roger Joel Tedder and Thelma Dickens Tedder. Maynard graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School, served in the Army National Guard, worked at the Kingsport Press before entering a long career as a Printing Procurement Specialist at the United States Government Printing Office.

Maynard, along with his wife, Barbara Willis Tedder, married 51 years, raised his family in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Together they were devoted and loving parents to their two sons, Erik Tedder, of Church Hill, TN and Roger Tedder, of Bristol, VA. Maynard was very proud of their accomplishments, education, and careers. Maynard was an extremely proud grandfather of Mariah LeighAnn Tedder-Gulledge and Benjamin Erik Tedder. Maynard was an avid golfer and gardener.

Maynard married Nancy Ketron in 2016, and they attended First Broad Street United Methodist Church of Kingsport, TN, and took solace in knowing the Lord was watching over them. Maynard was a devoted Christian who cherished his Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Maynard was preceded in death by Barbara Willis Tedder; sisters, June Armstrong and LaDonna Winters.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ketron Tedder; son Erik Tedder and wife, Michelle; granddaughter, Mariah and husband, Zachary Gulledge of Boston, MA; grandson, Ben of Church Hill, TN; and son, Roger of Bristol, VA.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of the Memory Care Unit at The Asbury Assisted Living Facility for the outstanding care, comfort and counsel provided during his stay there.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held in the chapel of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Randy Frye officiating. The family will receive friends following in the Fellowship Hall.
