Nancy Jaye Freeman Stucker, 82, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully at her home on June 6, 2026. Born in Kingsport on July 7, 1943, Nancy lived a life defined by devotion to her faith, her family and her students.
Nancy earned her bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University and later completed her master’s degree, pursuing a lifelong passion for education. She dedicated more than 30 years to teaching elementary school students at Brookside, Holston, and Indian Springs Elementary Schools, where she touched countless lives through her patience, encouragement, and genuine love for children.
Outside the classroom, Nancy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time at the beach, enjoying a Diet Coke, and directing the children’s choir at church. Her nails were almost always painted red, a trademark that reflected her bright and spirited personality. Additionally, Nancy was an outstanding cook and had a special talent when it came to Southern comfort foods.
More than any accomplishment, Nancy’s greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and “Nana Girl” to her beloved grandchildren. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, James Oscar Freeman and Gladys Nancy Roller Freeman; and her brother, Pal Freeman.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Ralph D. Stucker; daughter, Sara Phipps (Jason); stepson, Doug Stucker (Teresa); stepdaughter, Lori Gable; grandsons, Isaac and Jacob Jones; step-grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel, Sean, and Ella Phipps; niece, Lauren Freeman; and a host of extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Isaac Jones officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2026, at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Those who knew Nancy will long remember her caring heart, her unwavering love for her family, and the familiar words: “Wait a minute” and “Be safe.” Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue through all who were blessed to know her.
