Nannie Myrtle Starnes, age 77, of Blountville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 15, 2025. Myrtle was born on January 16, 1948 in Dungannon, Virginia. She was one of eleven children. Myrtle worked in food service at Kay’s restaurant for 14 years. She was known for her green thumb and could often be found tending to her flower beds. She had a great interest in Native American artwork and creating her own dream catchers. She was also musically inclined; skilled in both playing guitar and singing. Myrtle had a contagious sense of humor and a smile that brought immense joy to her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Riley and Rusha Lee Stapleton; son, Calvin Monroe; sister, Ollie Miller; and brothers, Jimmy, Bob, and John Stapleton.
Left to cherish her memory include her children, Melinda Monroe, Shannon Monroe, Chuck Guy, and Robin Salts; siblings, Jean Bright (Jerry), Bud Stapleton (Rita), Darl Stapleton (Wanda), Clarice Brummitt (Dale), Ruth Baker (Bobby), Glen Stapleton, Ron Miller and Darlene Stapleton; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wished to extend a special thanks to Holston Valley Medical Center ICU staff, especially Dr. Lucinda Miller, Melissa Kozakowski, RN and Kim Trent, CNA.
The family will receive friends from 11am – 1pm on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 1pm. Graveside services will take place at Highland Cemetery, Rogersville following the funeral service.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
