Naomi Sluss Murry

Naomi Sluss Murry, 93, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born on November 3, 1931, in Jenkinjones, West Virginia, Naomi was a proud native of the Mountain State and carried that pride with her throughout her life. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Naomi was a force of nature with her will and determination that carried her through life.

A lifelong bridge player, Naomi found great joy in the game’s strategy and camaraderie. She also had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel—Las Vegas being a favorite destination, where she embraced the excitement and sparkle with enthusiasm. Above all, Naomi loved fashion and shopping.

A passionate fan of West Virginia University sports, Naomi could often be found cheering on the Mountaineers with loyalty and pride.

Naomi was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Henry Murry; and her cherished grandson, John Henry Jackson.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Dr. Grace McGee of Kingsport; her two daughters, Caryn Murry and Dr. Deidre Pierce (partner, Thomas O'Gara), both of Johnson City; granddaughters, Arwen Ann Fetters and her husband Jin of Knoxville, and Hannah Jackson of Baltimore, MD.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Gary WV. Donations should be addressed to St. Peter Catholic Church, 111 Virginia Ave. Welch, WV 24801 with Our Lady of Victory in the memo.
