Nell H. Echerd

Nell H. Echerd, 98, of Kingsport, passed away on Friday October 11^th, 2019 at Asbury Place after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born in Fuquay Varina, N.C. on March 17^th, 1921, to Herman and Bessie Holloway. In 1941, Nell married Pat Echerd, the love of her life. Eventually they moved to Kingsport when Pat began his 36 year career with Eastman. Nell chose to be a “stay at home” mom. She loved being with her children. Throughout the years she enjoyed golf, tennis, bridge, reading and traveling. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the Junior League of Kingsport. Pat and Nell were happily married for 61 years until Pat’s death. Nell will be remembered for her southern charm and quick wit.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Echerd; sisters, Willa Loy and Helen Graham; brothers, Fred and Craig Holloway.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, David Echerd and wife Caroline; three grandchildren, Carey Mantici and husband Rick, Brett Echerd and wife Katherine and Jessica Lao and husband Kevin; eight grandchildren, Hayes, Lillian, George, Reece, Audrey, Cassie, Grace and Tristan; extended family includes, Terry McKee and family, Todd McKee and family, Brian Cosby and family, Gary and Diane Cosby; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm Saturday November 2^nd , 2019 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. A service will follow at 12noon with The Rev. Jonathan Tuttle, Rector officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church  or to the charity of one’s choice.
