Penelope “Penny” or “Nani” Harriman, 85 of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday April 23, at Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was a kind, passionate woman who embraced life through love of travel, movie outings, lunches with friends, and the meaningful time she spent with her family. She had a cheerful spirit and brought laughter to all who knew her.
Born on December 2, 1940, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Penny met her late husband, Earl Harriman, at the University of Nevada Reno, and they were married in 1961. She lived in Nevada, California, Massachusetts, New York, and South Carolina before making her home in Tennessee to be close to her grandchildren. Penny dedicated herself to raising a family and as an administrative assistant at an elementary school. She was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi, a former member of the Red Hat Society, and an active member of The City Church.
Penny is survived by her daughter Rebecca Harriman (wife of Robert Seals); her daughter Amy Castle (wife of Kenny Castle); four grandchildren (Megan Tucker, Caitlyn Castle, Brianna Castle, Aynsley Castle); and seven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. She will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew her.
