Peggy Jean Castle went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2026, after a brief illness. She was born on September 17, 1934, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She was the daughter of Fred and Asalee Reach (née Cole).
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 70 years, Charles E. Castle; a daughter, Karen E. Flagle; one grandson, Brian E. Dowell; and brother Herbert W. Reach all of Bristol, Tennessee.
Survivors include two daughters, Lorrie (Joseph) LeBeau of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Cindy (Kamran) Hayel of Greeneville Tennessee; one granddaughter, Megan (Brian) Franklin; two great-grandsons, Harrison C. Franklin and Oliver B. Franklin, all of Cookeville, Tennessee; one step-granddaughter, Nazanin Hayel; one brother, William (Lila) Reach of Farmville, Virginia; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Peggy was a 1953 graduate of Big Stone Gap High School where she was very active in school affairs and voted “Miss BSG High School 1953”. After graduation, she held jobs in the insurance and health care fields and was a devoted homemaker. She was very talented and could do anything from artistic needlework to home improvements. She also enjoyed gardening and reading. She is deeply loved, forever missed, and will always be one of our greatest blessings.
Services for Peggy will be Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Blountville, Tennessee, with Rev. Ray Amos officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to F.R.A.N.K. (Feline Rescue and No Kill Shelter), Kim Bowlin, 213 Alders Place, Bristol, Tennessee.
