Cleda "Penny" M. Reasor

Cleda “Penny” M. Reasor passed away October 16, 2023, at her home in Kingsport, TN at the age of 98.  She was born May 20, 1925, in Ashland, KY.

She was raised in Ashland, KY by her parents, Ennis and Winnie Pennington.  After graduating from high school, she went to nursing school at Berea College.  After graduating, she relocated to Kingsport, TN, where she began working as a registered nurse at Holston Valley Community Hospital.  She worked for many years as a nurse and often mentioned enjoying working in labor and delivery and helping to bring babies into the world.

She had a very pronounced “right brain” noted for her creativity.  She was an expert at making culinary delights from scratch in the kitchen at her home.  She has passed on valued recipes to family members and friends.  She also loved to sew and was accustomed to making clothing for herself and her family.  She also enjoyed crocheting and made many blankets, which are still being used today.  She also loved to paint and was very talented with creations that rival professional artisans.

Penny was a very sacrificial person!  She was devoted to her family and their well-being and would often put their needs before hers.  She was a giving person and sought to be like Jesus Christ.  As Jesus told Peter to take care of the lambs and tend to the sheep (humanity); Cleda sought to do the same.  She certainly demonstrated Fruit of the Spirit qualities routinely: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control!”  What a great role model she was for her family, friends, neighbors, church family, and patients she took care of as a nurse.

She knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and studied God’s Word daily.  She passionately taught Sunday School classes for many years, which she enjoyed.  She was a believer in spreading the Good News about Jesus Christ as well as the Great Commission.  Favorite Bible verses she would want to share with others would be John 14:6: “Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life and there is no way to the Father except through Him;”  Romans 10:9: “…profess with your mouth Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, and you’ll be saved;” John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life.”  Though Penny Reasor is no longer with us here on earth, she is with her Lord and Savior!  Absent from the body, present with the Lord; she is in a better place with a new body with no more pain and suffering.  Amen!

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and her spouse, John D. Reasor. She is survived by her two sons, Brian K. Reasor and James E. Reasor; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 2-3pm, with the funeral service at 3-4pm in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2630 TN-75 Blountville, TN 37617 (near Tri-Cities Airport).
