Randy Michael Stein

Randy Michael Stein of Kingsport, Tennessee passed away from sudden cardiac death on June 26, 2026. He passed away quickly and painlessly sitting in his favorite recliner with his kitty cat, Pauly nearby.

Randy was born in Kingsport on February 16, 1957. The family moved in 1965, briefly to Houston, Texas and then to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1966. Randy graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in 1975.

After graduating, Randy enlisted in the US Navy. He was sent to submarine school and trained as a radioman. He served on The USS Gudgeon, one of the last US diesel submarines, for four years. With his radio and communications training, Randy stayed in San Diego and found contracting work in wiring communication systems. This work took him to countries as diverse as France and twice to Iraq. He eventually moved from the company headquarters in San Diego back to Tennessee.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, William Ashley Stein; brother, Stephen Marshall Stein.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Lois Stein Brookshire; five siblings, Will Stein, Sandy Garner, Patrice Carlin, Bruce Stein and Jennifer Dowell; and multiple nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

There will be a celebration of life ceremony for his family in the near future.
