Rebecca Joyce Shelor Briddell, known to many as Becky, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, in Bristol, Tennessee, at the age of 88. She was born May 2, 1937, in Patrick County, Virginia.

Becky spent her childhood in Patrick County and Lynchburg, Virginia, and graduated from Lynchburg High School. She later attended the University of Richmond, earning a certificate as an X-ray/radiological technician. She devoted her career to healthcare, working as an X-ray technician in the Kingsport hospital system.

On March 18, 1967, she married James “Jim” Briddell in Lynchburg. The couple made their home in Kingsport, Tennessee, and enjoyed traveling together throughout their marriage. “Aunt Becky” was incredibly fond of, and devoted to, her nephews, nieces, and their families.

Becky was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kingsport. She volunteered more than 3,000 hours at local hospitals and was active in several historical organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as Chapter Regent and in a state-appointed volunteer role at Mountain Home Veterans Hospital, as well as the Colonial Dames XVII Century and the Daughters of 1812.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Georgia Shelor; her sisters, Betty McCanna and Judith Elliott; her husband, James “Jim” Briddell; and her brother-in-law, John Briddell.

Becky is survived by her sister-in-law, Esther Briddell; brother-in-law Clarence McCanna; nieces and nephews Tres (Robin) Elliott, Christopher (Amanda) Elliott, Karen Elliott, Elizabeth (Phil) Ellikidis, and Tim and Kim McCanna; Andrew (Beth) Briddell, and Matthew (Tim Soper) Briddell; and great-nieces and nephews Nora, Catherine, and Jacob Briddell; Carter, Winston, Sam, and Isabel Elliott; Cali McCanna; and Charlotte and Alex Ellikidis.

A memorial service will take place at a later date at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Kingsport.
