Rev. Marvin Otto

It is with great sadness in our hearts, but joy and comfort in our faith that we announce the passing of Marvin on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at The Blake of Kingsport. He was born June 3, 1938 in Lincoln, NE. Preceding him in death are his parents, Richard and Merna Otto, brother Wesley and his beautiful daughter, Becky Otto Whitlock. After graduating from Concordia Theological Seminary, he served as a pastor for 39 years to congregations in North Dakota, Arkansas, New Orleans, LA and Kingsport, TN. He married his wife of 61 years, Marlene Greene Otto, and together they spent many years of service to our Lord.

Besides Marlene, he is survived by son, John (Jenna) of Salem, OR; son, Kurt (Robin) of Pea Ridge, AR; son-in-law, Stanley Whitlock of Washington, DC; three granddaughters, Olivia Whitlock, Bianca (Tim) Martin, Madison McGuire; two great-grandsons, Becket and Arthur Martin; and sister, Karon Harris.

The family expresses sincere thanks to The Blake of Kingsport, especially Cindy Lemons and the entire memory care staff, and Gentiva Hospice Care.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 12:00-1:00pm at Concordia Lutheran Church, 725 Truxton Dr., Kingsport. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm with Pastor Vincent Shemwell and Pastor Paul Becker officiating. Inurnment will follow at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Columbarium, 800 Broad St., Kingsport.
