Richard Wayne "Rick" Lane, age 62, of Church Hill, entered eternal peace unexpectedly on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at the ER at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Kingsport on July 29, 1956, a son of the late Dewey "Buck" and Louise Lane, he had resided in this area his entire life. He graduated from Ketron High School in 1974. Rick was an independent over the road truck driver with RWL Trucking retiring in 1998 following 20 years of service. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted dad, papaw, brother and friend who loved his dog, Bentley, was a trader, who would wheel and deal 24 hours a day, and was an avid motorcyclist.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Maude Lane; sister, Lisa Hulse; brothers, Bobby and David Lane; and half-brother, Jack Lane.
Rick is survived by the mother of his children, Rhonda Sue Lane Shoemaker of Church Hill; 2 daughters, Danielle Gillenwater and fiancé, Jason Bishop of Kingsport, and Hope Lane and John Navalta of Kingsport; step-daughter, Deborah Begley of Kingsport; 5 grandchildren, Desirae Gillenwater, Jasmine Sharp, Tyler Bingham, Zeth Frazier and Cassandra Frazier; 2 great-grandchildren, Raylin Gamble and Nevaeh Frazier; sister, LouAnn Hickman of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends, John Moody, Jerry Honaker, and Janet and Rick Kennedy; and his dog, Bentley "B/Boy."
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 pm. with Rev. Jeremy McMillan officiating
Burial will follow committal services at 11:00 am on Saturday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Those attending the committal services are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:45 am on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Gary Lane, Greg Lane, Randal Lane, Matt Hickman, John Moody and Rich Kennedy. Jerry Honaker will be the honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
