Robert Lewis Walden, 67, of Johnson City, passed away February 7th, 2026 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Bristol, he has lived in this area all his life. He was a graduate of David Crockett High School and later ETSU.
Robert loved getting to know people and spending time with them. That followed him into what he did in life. His love of dirt track racing in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, and his love of people, soon combined in his journalism and historical accounting of the facts and memories of the accomplishments of many. Throughout the last four decades his stories were that of racing; but his story will be remembered in his love for people.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his sister, Mary Alice “Sissy” Crouch, nieces, Tia Leigh Walden and Alison Donielle Moore, several great nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm till 6:00pm Wednesday, February 25th, 2026 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home & Memorial Park. A memorial service will promptly follow at 6:00pm in the funeral home chapel.
