Roger Clark Cox, 69, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Roger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle whose life was marked by hard work, deep faith, and a servant’s heart.
He was born on August 4th, 1955 in Kingsport, Tennessee where he resided all of his life. Roger worked as a bus contractor for 34 years for Sullivan County Schools, owning and operating S&R Buses, Inc., alongside his beloved wife, Sandy. Roger was also a successful franchise owner of Anderson Windows for 16 years, where his reputation for quality work and integrity was well known throughout the region. A gifted carpenter, Roger could build, fix, or create just about anything with his hands. His craftsmanship was evident in the countless projects he completed for family, friends, and neighbors.
Roger was a faithful member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, where he also served over the cancer ministry. In his free time, Roger found joy in fishing and cheering on his beloved University of Tennessee Volunteers. However, his greatest joy of all was being “Papaw” to Levi Clark.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Maxie Cox; sister, Teresa Cox Cole; and father-in-law, James Robinette.
Roger is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Sandy, of Kingsport; daughter, Whitney Hill (Jacob) and grandson, Levi Clark, also of Kingsport; niece, Jessica Cook (J.R.) and great-niece, Savannah, of Johnson City; mother-in-law, Barbara Robinette of Kingsport; aunts Helen Skelton of Church Hill, Faye Cox of Kingsport, and Rosemary Thompson of Raleigh, NC; and several cousins.
Roger’s love for his family and his ability to make others laugh with his quick wit and sense of humor will be deeply missed but forever remembered. His life was a beautiful example of faith, family, and hard work.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm on Saturday, July 5th at Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor John Herdman and Gary Seaman officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 6th at Double Springs Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Hill, J.R. Cook, Damon Barnette, Jerry Lovegrove, Mike Chapman, Craig Hughes, Nathan Light, and Richard Francisco. Honorary pallbearers will be the bus drivers for S&R Buses, Inc.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the cancer ministry at Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, 197 Suncrest Street, Gray, TN 37615.
