Ruby Dorton Frye, 101, died on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at her home, just short of her 102, birthday. She grew up in Church Hill and lived in Kingsport her adult life. She was valedictorian of her graduating class and continued her education in Draughon's Business College in Knoxville. Ruby married Jack Frye on November 22, 1940. They were married for 65 years until his death in 2006 and loved each other dearly. She worked at Kingsport Press as a linotype operator until she started her family. Ruby was a member of Mafair United Methodist Church. She was a loving and kind person who enjoyed cooking, sewing, family, reading (especially her Bible), and working crossword puzzles.
The family would like to thank her loving caregivers, Sandee Tibbs, Jan Thompson, Robin Jordan and Robin Robinette, Amedisys Hospice - Becky, Dana, Cathy, Ed, Erica and Marla, and all those who took such wonderful and loving care of her. We are forever grateful to each one.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Bessie Lee Dorton; husband, Jeffery Webster "Jack" Frye; brothers, Edward, Albert, Earl, Thomas (her twin), Elmer and James Dorton; sisters, Venice Caswell and Nell Dorton; and granddaughters, Pamela Anderson and Tiffany Anderson Fleenor.
Left to cherish Ruby's memory are her daughters, Glenda Duncan and husband, Bill, and Catherine Rhinehart and husband, Charles; grandchildren, Kimberly Hicks, Christie Harvey, Daniel Duncan and wife, Carolyn, Tim Rhinehart, Darla Hartlage and husband, Josh, Charlton Rhinehart and wife, Jerrica, and grandson-in-law, Jeff Fleenor; great-grandchildren, Josh Hicks, Katie McConnell, Julia, Olivia and Jessica Harvey, Taylor and Tyler Duncan, Max and Crew Hartlage, Jack and Ben Fleenor, Arabella, Japeth and Zaeleigh Rhinehart; great-great-grandchildren, Hayden and Eli McConnell, and Nathan and Noah Hicks; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Jimmy Dorton Jr. officiating, with the eulogy given by her son-in-law, Charles Rhinehart.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with grandson, Charlton Rhinehart officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
