Ruth Evelyn Calfee
Ruth Evelyn Calfee, 92, of Fall Branch, went to be with the Lord, Monday, February 26, 2007 at Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center.
A native of Hillsville, VA, she had resided in Fall Branch most of her life. Mrs. Calfee was a graduate of Radford Teachers College, Radford, VA. She taught school in Washington County and retired from Sullivan County. Mrs. Calfee was a member of Fall Branch Methodist Church since 1941, Sullivan County Retired Teachers Association, Fall Branch United Methodist Women and Radford Alumni Association.
Mrs. Calfee was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Thornton Early and wife Hallie Ennice; husband, James R. Calfee; sister, Ida Mae Blankenship and husband Paul; twin sister, Mary Elizabeth Hale and husband Richard; daughter, Josephine Barkley and husband Ronnie; sons-in-law, James F. Dillow and Travis R. Stewart; brother-in-law, Robert Calfee; great-great granddaughter, Emma Mary-Rose Dillow.
Surviving are her daughter; Mary C. Stewart, five grandchildren; Jeffrey Dillow and wife Jill, Rev. Sidney Barkley and wife Sherry, James ?Stu? Stewart, Richard Barkley and wife Jerita, Vivian McGhee and husband Randy, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Fall Branch United Methodist Church with burial to follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary.
Jerry Price, Rick Chaffin, Jimmy Dawson, George Moody, Danny Flemming, Jerry Deakins, Wayne Pickens, and Dana Light Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Davick, Lamar Dawson, Jay Will Baxter, and Jim Taylor.
The family would like to express special thanks to the entire staff of Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center for their service and dedication.
