Ruth Marie Leonard

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the memory of Ruth Marie Leonard, who passed away at the age of 80, on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at home with her family, after a brief illness. Ruth was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished “Nana,” sister, aunt, and friend. Her family was the center of her world, and she found her greatest joy in the time spent with those she loved. She was a constant source of love, support, and encouragement, creating countless memories that her family will treasure forever.

Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene Leonard; her parents, Paul and Ruth Chappell; her brother, Norman Chappell; her sister, Eula Barber; and her son-in-law, Jeff Carrier.

Ruth is survived by her brother, Paul Chappell; children, Jeannie Carrier, Jackie Hall and husband, Danny, Kay Sawyers and husband, Daniel, John Leonard and wife, Jodi, Frank Leonard and wife, Traci; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom were blessed by her love and presence.

Ruth had a special place in her heart for animals, especially the cats she loved and cared for throughout her life. She was also a loyal fan of Tennessee Volunteers football and enjoyed cheering on her beloved Vols each season. Whether spending time with family, caring for her pets, or watching a football game, she found joy in life’s simple blessings.

Those who knew Ruth will remember her loving heart, her dedication to family, and the warmth she brought to every gathering. Her legacy lives on through the generations of family she nurtured and the many lives she touched with her kindness and unwavering love.

Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her. We find comfort in knowing that the love she shared continues to live on through her family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Blountville. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Chaplain Eric Perry officiating.

Graveside service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hamlett-Dobson Memorial Park.
