Sam "Mayor" McGee

Sam “Mayor” McGee, 79, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord, early Friday morning, September 4, 2026, at his home, following a brief illness. Sam was born in Kingsport and attended Gate City High School. He then went into the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired from Quebecor after 38 years of service. Sam attended Holston View Methodist Church in Weber City. He was an avid archery shooter and loved Gate City Blue Devil sports.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Sam, Sr. and Hazel McGee Darnell; sister, Brenda Estep; brother, Mack McGee; mother and father-in-law, Glenna and Giggs Osborne; and sister-in-law, Sharon Bernsten.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia Osborne McGee; sisters, Joyce Davidson and Emogene Quillen; brothers, Henry McGee and wife, Susan, Glen McGee, Bobby McGee, Charles McGee and wife, Trish; sister-in-law, Deborah Bowen and husband Johnny; special niece, Misty Weaver; nephew, Jeff Fiends and wife, LaCosta; great-nephews, Caden and Cooper Fields; ball buddy and nephew, Greg McGee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 7, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mark Ball and Rev. Chuck Griffin officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
