Sharon Moody

Sharon Kay (Hobbs) Moody, 72, of Kingsport died peacefully in her home on Monday, December 18, 2023, after battling Lewy body dementia. Sharon was born in Kingsport to the late James B. Hobbs Jr. and Maggie P. Hobbs. She was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for more than 30 years before retiring in 2013. Sharon spoke fondly of the people she served on routes in Colonial Heights and in Cooks Valley. She was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church for nearly 45 years, during which time she was a faithful Sunday school teacher for adult women and then middle school girls, until her disease made it difficult to prepare lessons. Sharon served on various committees over the years and volunteered with all age groups including rocking bed babies in the nursery, teaching elementary students during Vacation Bible School, chaperoning youth during lock-ins, conferences and Discipleship Now weekends, and enjoying a rich fellowship with her peers in the Couples 2 Sunday school class. She was a committed Christian who lived her faith daily in the way that she deeply loved her family and friends. Sharon was a gracious hostess who constantly welcomed people into her home with a bright smile and an open heart.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 52 years, Roy W. Moody; sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Tanja, Bryan and Alondra, and Brandon and Brandi; grandchildren, Clay and his wife Macey, Spencer, and Allison, Madison Vielmette and her husband Joshua, Colin, Joshua, and Ava, and Dalton Kroenert; her sister, Jo Ann Nottingham and her husband Bob; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Sunnyside Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Bill Simms officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Clay Moody, Spencer Moody, Colin Moody, Joshua Moody, Joshua Vielmette, and Dalton Kroenert.

In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that you consider donating either to Sunnyside Baptist Church’s building fund, 406 Cooks Valley Rd., or to TLC Community Center in Elizabethton, 145 Judge Don Lewis Blvd. #7, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
