Steven Burton Hovis

Steven Burton Hovis, 55, of Kingsport, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025. Steve was born in West Palm Beach, and graduated from Palm Beach Gardens High School, Troy University and the New England Technical Institute. In high school, Steve excelled in football and was a member of the school band. Steve was a kind and caring soul, a great son and brother and a great uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was an avid fan of UT, Troy, and ETSU football and his beloved Chicago Bears.

Steve is preceded in death by his father, Powell Hovis; grandparents, Lee and Hazel Hovis and Roy and Wanda Roseberry.

He was survived by his mother, Sandra Hovis of Kingsport; brother, Mark and Christ Hovis of Ft. Wayne, IN; sister, Rebecca and John Voight of Waukegan, IL; nieces, Darah, Kayla (Alan), Kathryn (Patrick) and Meerah; nephews, August (Moriah) Joshua and Jarrett Dylan; great-nieces, Paisley and Aurelia; aunts, Sharron Richardson and Jeannine Hodges of Kingsport; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6pm – 7pm on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Sullivan Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7pm with Rev. Jeff Strong officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11am on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at East Lawn Memorial Park, officiated by Roger Hodges.
