Stony Miles Colley passed away, October 28, 2025, after an extended battle with dementia, at NHC Kingsport, surrounded by his wife, family and caregiver of NHC. Stony was born December 25, 1940 in Clinchco, VA to parents, Burk and Nannie T. Colley. Stony served in the United States Marine Corps for four years and retired from Federal Aviation Administration at Tri-Cities Airport. He went to flight school and taught flying in Wise, VA and often flew for several coal companies. Stony was an avid hunter in Bath County, VA.
Stony was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jason Miles Colley; brothers, Johnny M. Colley, Richard Colley; brother-in-law, Bobby Bear; in-laws Phyllis Goins and Larry Goins, Jerry McMurray and Bob Boling.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Brenda Goins Colley; sister, Margaret C. Bear; brother, Holiday Colley (Eva); sisters-in-law, Margaret Colley, Judy Colley, Rhonda Boling; brother-in-law, Michael Goins and special family friend, Roger Holbrook; and very special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 11:00am – 1:00pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wayne Baker officiating.
Military graveside service with American Legion Posts 3/265, at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Hunter White, Cameron White, Mason Riddle, Adam McMurray, Ryker McMurray, Todd Goins, Tracy Massie and Justin Colley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Smith, Bryon Snapp, Ronnie Dunnigan and Gary Bartley.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Home Instead and caregiver, Sharon.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to a charity of one’s choice.
