Sue Hammond Blair, 70, a long-time resident of the Colonial Heights community, Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away Monday, March 5, 2007, peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Sue was born May 1, 1936, in Atlanta, Georgia, where she spent her childhood years. She graduated from Murphy High School in Atlanta, then attended the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was married to her husband, Richard H. Blair, for nearly 52 years. They lived in Gainesville, Florida, as well as several states across the country prior to settling in Kingsport in 1969. They have been long-time members of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, where Sue taught children?s Sunday School classes for many years. She was a teacher in the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Dayschool program, and was currently serving on the Dayschool Board of Directors. She was also a member of the Kingsport Women?s Symphony Guild for many years.

Surviving are her husband, Richard H. Blair, Kingsport; her three loving children, Jeff Blair and his wife Cora, Gray, Tennessee, Jill Blair Dick and husband Kenny, Kingsport, and Julie Blair Lester and husband Jason, Kingsport. Among her most valued treasures were her seven grandchildren, Michael Blair and fiancée Ashlee Smith, Meagan Blair, Blaine, Bailee, and Kylee Dick, Jake and Jackson Lester; great grand-daughter McKenzie Smith. Also surviving are her two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Dick Norrell, Blue Ridge, Georgia, and Brenda and Steve Davis, Bishop, Georgia. There are many special nieces and nephews as well as dear friends, too numerous to mention. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Sue and William Jackson Hammond, Avondale Estates, Georgia.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening, March 6, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. A family graveside service will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, followed by a service celebrating Sue?s life, at 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Blair, Michael Blair, Kenny Dick, Blaine Dick, Bailee Dick, Jason Lester, Ron Younts, Bill Kelly, and Charlie Nitschke. Honorary pallbearers are Meagan Blair, Kylee Dick, Jake Lester, Jackson Lester, Dick Norrell, Scott Norrell, Steve Davis, Greg Davis, Joe Davis, Russell Davis, Fred Conrad, David Stooksbury, and Bill Payne.

Memorial contributions may be made in Sue?s name to either Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church or Colonial Heights Presbyterian Dayschool, both of 213 Colonial Heights Road, Kingsport, Tennessee 37663.
