Susan Renee Free Griffith

Susan Renee Free Griffith, age 68, of Kingsport, Tennessee passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026 at Life Care Center of Gray. Susan was born in Kingsport on February 1, 1958, and earned her LPN through the CTE program at Ketron High School. Susan worked for Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Kentucky and Indian Path Hospital. She was an intelligent and highly skilled nurse. Susan was a free spirit who loved life and cherished time with her friends and family. She enjoyed reading, journaling, shopping, listening to music and watching her tv shows. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, James Donald and Georgia Pauline Free; and her husband, Steven "Griff" Griffith.

She is survived by her daughters, Krista Sword (Eric Johnson) and Mistri Griffith; grandchildren, Stevey Dettor, Tristan Johnson, and Jasper Zamorano; sisters, Melanie D. Pendleton (Steve), Robin Fritz (Erik), and April Kennedy (Roger); brother, Donny Free (Angela); special niece, Danielle Pendleton; and several other nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Life Care Center of Gray and a special thank you to Toshia, her favorite nurse, for her care and kindness.

The family will receive friends from 6pm – 7pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A celebration of life will follow at 7pm.
