Sylvia H. Harris

Sylvia Hakanson Harris, age 83, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by her children. Born in Kingsport on June 7, 1942, a daughter of the late Gus and Edith Hakanson, she resided in Kingsport most of her life. Sylvia was a member of Colonial Heights Christian Church and Kingsport Jaycees.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav “Gus” Warren and Edith Nelle Williams Hakanson.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Andrea Harris of Knoxville, Melissa Harris of Kingsport and David Harris (Eva) of Richmond, Va; grandchildren, Amanda and Brad Burdine, Hunter Thetford, Abigail and Jordan Davis, and Samuel and Mia Harris; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Caudle; sister, Judith Holland of Maryville; brother, Warren Hakanson of Nashville; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6pm – 7pm on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A funeral service will take place at 11am on Saturday, August 23, 2025 in the funeral home chapel. Graveside services will follow at 12:00pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Warren, Hunter, and Ben Hakanson, David Harris, Brad Burdine and Hunter Thetford.
