Theada Stapleton Witherspoon, the beloved heart of her family, entered into rest on Sunday, December 28th at the age of 92. Theada was known best for her gentle spirit, her immense love for her family, especially her husband George, and her ability to make everyone feel cherished. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to grow in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Theada was born in Coeburn, Virginia on August 12th, 1933 to Clyde and Pearl Stapleton. She spent most of her childhood playing and helping to care for her five siblings. She was married to the love of her life, George, for 70 years. Together, they raised a loving family, shared many good times and loved each other every single day.
Theada enjoyed spending her time gardening and growing flowers, reading and spending time with her family and friends, cooking and baking. She was famous for her green beans, hotdog chili and her delicious desserts. She was a faithful member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.
Theada is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Pearl Stapleton, her brothers, Harold, Roger and Carrol Stapleton and her sister, Sue Gilliam.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, George Witherspoon; sons, Mark (Kim) and Roger (Kim) Witherspoon; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lindsey, James, Vivian and Owen Lee, Amber, Josh, Avery and Luke Bacon, Graham, Shelby and baby boy Witherspoon, Sydney and Nick Jones; brother, Jerry and many other loving family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from 11:00am – 1:00pm in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Blountville. A graveside service will follow at 1:00pm in the Garden of Everlasting Life. The family will be served by Rev. Dan Cheevers and officiated by Rev. Mark Knisley.
Pallbearers will be Mark Witherspoon, Roger Witherspoon, Graham Witherspoon, Josh Bacon, Nick Jones and James Lee.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Bethany Presbyterian Church in her memory P. O. Box 6485 Kingsport, Tennessee 37663.
