Thomas Greear Hale, 90, Bristol, went home to be with The Lord on Monday, March 23, 2026. Thomas was born on May 11, 1935, in Castlewood, VA to the late Charlie William and Mary Jane Brewer Hale. He worked for Helms Candy Co. in Bristol, VA for over 20 years. Thomas then went on to work as a pipefitter at Davis Pipe and Fabrication, where he would retire after 20 years of dedicated service. He was known as a caring father and for his long and meaningful talks that always made his children feel heard, understood and never alone in the world. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hale was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Lundy Hale; children, Carroll and Andy Hale; brothers, Robert, Oscar, Lloyd, Richard, Stafford (Jake) and Roy Hale; sisters, Carrie and Josephine, and foster parents, Lucy and Lee Greear.
He is survived by his sons, Tom Hale (Penny), Eddie Hale (Catherine) and Butch Cooper (Cherri); daughters, Patty Hale, Peggy Price (Kenny) and Amy Hale; grandchildren, Brian, Eric, Kelsey, Ryan, Anthony, Michael, Stacy, Marsha, Danny, Joshua, Rebecca, David, Andrew, Joey, and Cody Cooper (Kelly); 33 great-grandchildren,13 great-great-grandchildren and foster sister, Mary Shelton (James).
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Blountville. A graveside service officiated by Pastor Jamie Ferguson will follow in the Garden of Solomon.
Mike O’Neal, Anthony Hale, Ryan Hale, Brian Hale, Eric Hale and Cody Cooper will serve as pallbearers.
