Toby Keith Triplett, a lifelong resident of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away leaving behind a legacy of devotion and charm. Born on May 6, 1960, to Sue and Tobe Triplett, Toby was the third of four children raised in a humble home. Though he was known for a mischievous streak as a child, his natural charisma allowed him to win over even the most stubborn neighbors. His youth was spent fishing and later bowhunting, but it was his time in the Boy Scouts of America that truly defined his character. A dedicated Scout, Toby achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow, embodying the values of being helpful, trustworthy, loyal, and kind. These principles guided him through high school, where he forged lifelong friendships and began a relationship with Mary Martha Cleary. Their bond blossomed into a beautiful marriage and a family, including their son, Myles Keith Triplett, born in 1991, whom Toby proudly mentored through the Scouting program.
With a spirit of pure determination, Toby secured a career at AFG (now Cardinal Glass) shortly before his son was born, serving as a reliable pillar of the company for over 35 years under the nickname “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Upon his quiet retirement, he channeled his creativity into various hobbies, becoming an amateur woodworker known for his handcrafted cutting boards and a love for building military missile models. He also held a surprising and youthful love for video games, which he enjoyed with great enthusiasm. Toby will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving brother, and a true gentleman who rose from humble beginnings to build a life rich in love and hard work, along with a community of friends who were better for having known him.
Toby was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Emily Sue Triplett; nephew, Kevin Sanders and in-laws, John and Peggy Cleary.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Martha Triplett; son, Myles Triplett (Kia); siblings Mike Triplett (Delilah), Lisa Easterling (Sam), and Ann Holden (Josh Munsey); sister-in-law, Dana Sanders; brothers-in-law, Dennis Cleary (Cheryl) and Jon Clearly; niece, Emily Herrick (Jake) and daughter, Hannah; nephews, Jason Sanders, Travis Cleary and Mathew Colin Rafe Cleary; and aunt-in-law, Joy Baker.
The family will receive friends from 3-6:00 pm on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
In “Toby fashion,” please wear your favorite Tennessee Volunteer or NASCAR attire and bring along a story you would like to share.
