William Lee Mullins

William Lee Mullins, 74, of Kingsport, passed away, Saturday, March 11, 2023, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Kingsport and served his country during the Vietnam and Desert Storm conflicts. William retired as a Captain after serving for 26 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who was happiest spending time with his family. William loved riding motorcycles and building model airplanes. He was a lifetime member of The VVA, Chapter 979.

 

William was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hila Mullins; sister, Louise Mullins; brother, Ralph Conkin; nephew, Keith Mullins.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret Mullins; daughters, Vicky Sons and husband Eddie, Amanda Mullins and husband James Gelzon; Priscilla Bayer and husband Mike; grandchildren, Jamie Gelzon, Ray Mullins and fiancé Callie Gantt; Jacob Bayer, David Bayer, Brandon Bayer, Nathan Sons, Braeden Sons; adopted granddaughter, Jasmyn Gunter; great-grandchildren, Bailynn Williams, Andrea Bayer, Rayna Mullins; siblings, Roy Mullins and wife Barbara, Thelma Reynolds and husband Jerry; several nieces, nephews and cousins; furbabies, Otis, Rosie, Dusty, Dakota, Pepper, Kona and Jazzi.

 

The family would like to extend special thanks to his nurse, Jackie Reeves, and care givers, Michi Moore and Chelsea Dykes, Amedysis and Amedysis Hospice for the great care they bestowed.

 

The family  will receive friends on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.  Funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Rites by The American Legion Hammond Posts, 3/265 and The VVA Chapter 979.

 

Pallbearers will be Ray Mullins, Jacob Bayer, David Bayer, Brandon Bayer, Nathan Sons and Braeden Sons. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Reynolds, Roy Mullins, James Gelzon, Mike Bayer and Eddie Sons.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home to assist family with funeral expenses.
