Wilma Colleen Dennison

Wilma Colleen Dennison went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ July 3, 2024. Colleen was born in Scott County, Virginia on March 11, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Harmon Benton Gilliam and Pearl Venus Jennings Gilliam. Colleen graduated from Sullivan High School in 1945.

To quote her, she married the Best-looking man she had ever seen, J.W. Dennison on November 29, 1946 after he returned from serving our country in the US Marine Corps during WWII. She and J.W. celebrated 65 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 2011.

She was a charter member of Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and worked in VBS for many years. Most recently she attended Higher Ground Baptist Church where she dearly loved the fellowship and ladies of the Mary Class.

Serving others is what made her the happiest. She devoted her life to Christ, whose love she spread to everyone she met. She was kind, gentle, loving, faithful and always uplifting others. Her warm smile and a sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes touched everyone who was blessed to know her. She loved reading her Bible and working jigsaw puzzles on her iPad. Colleen loved being outdoors, working in the yard, growing a garden and canning the harvest. She loved to cook and was an excellent seamstress. She loved to travel and J.W. always said her middle name was GO. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.W. Dennison; and siblings, Harold Edgar Gilliam, Bernice Gilliam Rich, Dalton Chester Gilliam, Nancy Gilliam Abbot and Wanda Gilliam Addington.

Surviving her are her most loved and cherished children and grandchildren; son, James Dennison (Vickie); daughters, Connie Wilson (Chris) and Anita Trego (Larry); grandchildren, Jeremy Pearson (Karen), Dustin Pearson (Chrissa), Adam Dennison (Jessica Bentley), Bryan Pearson (Brittney), Patrick Dennison (Allison), Tyler Haynes and Madison Haynes (fiancée, Noel); great-grandchildren, Rebecca Pearson, Judd Pearson, Rachel Pearson, Kelsey Pearson, Jack Pearson, Gage Pearson and Billyngs Dennison; sister, Elma Moats; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 3:00.

The graveside service will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
