Elmo Howard Light, 70, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020, at his home following a prolonged illness.
Born on June 10, 1949, Elmo was a lifelong resident of the Beech Creek community of Sullivan and Hawkins Counties and a 1971 graduate of Sullivan West High School. He spent much of his life farming and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those needing a hard worker. In his spare time, he loved Tennessee football, visiting with family and friends, and watching classic westerns.
Preceding Elmo in death are his parents, Cleva and Rhoda Light; brothers Paul Light and Charlie Light; and nephews Michael Light and Jeffrey Morelock.
Surviving his passing are his brothers, Haskell Light (Laurie) of Cocoa Beach FL, Cleve Light, Jr. of the Beech Creek community, and Dwayne Light (Missy) of Merritt Island, FL; sisters, Patsy Light of the home, Wanda Lewis of Kingsport, TN, Darlene Fugate of Kingsport, TN, and Debbie Light of Kingsport, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday, January 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. Funeral services will follow with Chaplain Rick Deakins officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, at Mt. Carmel Free Will Baptist Church with Brother Danny Dolen officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The Light family would like to thank the caretakers, nurses, and staff at Care Central Senior Care Solutions and Amedisys Home Health for caring for Elmo throughout his illness as well as those who have extended their kind words and prayers.
