Frances Reed Henard, 89, of Kingsport, died Thursday night, May 21, 2020 at her son’s home after a brief illness. Born in Harlan County, KY, she had resided in Kingsport most of her life. She was a 1949 graduate of Sullivan High School and a 1977 graduate of Graham Bible College in Bristol, TN. Frances was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Weber City, VA. Frances loved gardening and spending time with family. She was known in the community as Mrs. Claus (along with her husband Santa Claus) for 36 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Henard, and 2 sisters, Julie Peters and Irene Shields.
Frances is survived by 2 sons, Robert Henard and wife, Lorna and Morris Henard and wife, Francie, all of Kingsport; 8 granddaughters, Amanda Hensley and husband, Brian, Shauna Walsworth and husband, Andrew, Jessica Gaude and husband, Nathan, Heather Burton and husband, David, Charlie Baker and husband, Ben; Miller Reagan and husband, Joel, and Billie Henard; grandson, Justin Henard; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Kathleen Ramey of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 pm on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jeremiah Riner officiating. A private family burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
