Irene Dixon Myers

"The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want."

Irene Dixon Myers, 82, of Kingsport, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 8, 2014.

She was born March 28, 1931, and lived most of her adult life in Big Stone Gap, VA and resided in Kingsport for the past 22 years. Irene was a loving and devoted wife and mother, having raised five sons. She loved flowers, singing, attending church, and gospel music. She accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at the age of 15, and her faith in God never wavered. She was a member of Lone Star Missionary Baptist Church.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lily Dixon; son, Tommy Lee Myers; daughter-in-law, Geri Myers; sisters, Mabery Burns and Pauline Dixon; and brother, James Dixon.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lee Edward Myers; sons, David Myers of Cleveland, OH, Jerry Myers of Church Hill, TN, and fiancé, Tajuana Jones of Jonesville, VA, Dan Myers and wife Pat of San Diego, CA, and Gary Myers and wife Pat of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Carrie Hendrix, Amber Ely, David Myers, Jennifer Forrai, and Samantha Myers; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Sam Dixon and wife Evelyn of Iverness, FL, and Frank Dixon of San Diego, CA; sister-in-law, Hazel Lamb and husband, Chester, of Appalachia, VA; several nieces and nephews; and dear friend and brother in Christ, Royce Begley.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Mullins officiating.

The graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, VA. Family and friends should meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Royce Begley, Doug Ely, William Jones, Jim Dash, Bill Livesay, and Justin Marcum. Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Ely, Sebastian Ely, Braxton Ely, and Lucy Hendrix.
