Toy Earl Simpson

Toy Earl Simpson, born March 29, 1943 in Kingsport, TN, died September 25, 2019 at NHC Healthcare in Kingsport, TN.  He was a 1963 graduate of Sullivan High School.  Toy retired from CE Division of Eastman Chemical Company in 1997 and worked for Kingsport Heating and Air after his retirement.  He married Karon Charlene Jones on July 7, 1966.  Toy was a Born Again Christian and former member of Solomon’s Temple Missionary Baptist Church where he sang with the original Solomon’s Temple Quartet.

He was a Life Member of the Bays Mountain Park Association, past President of the Outdoorsmen, Inc., the Bays Mountain Longbeards Chapter of the NWTF, East Tennessee Sportsmen Federation and Tri-City Varmint Hunters.  Toy was a Charter Member of AWA and a Silver Life Member of the National Wild Turkey Federation.  He was a member of the Cherokee Rod & Gun Club and the John S. Mosby Camp 1409 of the SCV.  Toy was a TWRA Hunter Safety Instructor and a Reserve Deputy for Sullivan County with service as a School Resource Officer.

Toy was a loving husband, devoted father, faithful friend and a good huntin’ buddy!

He was preceded in death by daughter, Kristen Simpson Meyer; parents, Wilford I. and Iona Barrett Simpson; siblings and their spouses, Ofa and Tom Hicks, Paul Simpson, Don and Louise Simpson, and Ivy and Barbara Simpson; and niece, Sharon Simpson Patterson.

Toy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Karon Jones Simpson; son and spouse, Tony and Karen Simpson; special son, Dan Byrd; son-in-law, John Meyer; grandchildren and their families, Matt, Ashleigh, Kayleigh and Kamden Stocton, and Stacey, Seth and Everett Proffitt; sister-in-law, Dorothy Simpson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Tim Perry officiating and music by Alan Mahaffey. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Gary Gott, Ronnie Gott, Kris Jones, Jeremiah Simpson, Scott Simpson and Wayne Simpson.

In lieu flowers, the family requests memorial donations to either the Building Fund of Sullivan Baptist Church, 4152 Maplewood St., Kingsport, TN 37660, or to Outdoorsmen, Inc., P.O. Box 3303, Kingsport, TN 37664.
