Wayland Childress

Wayland Childress, 79, passed away late Thursday evening, October 31, 2019, at his home. Wayland was a lifelong resident of Kingsport, a graduate of Sullivan High School, and a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired from Tennessee Eastman and Superior Carrier. Wayland was also an avid Nascar fan and collector. He was a longtime member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Stallard Childress; and parents, Gladys and Charles Childress.

Wayland is survived by three daughters, Tracey Cleek and husband Scott, Sara Hope Blakley and husband Bret, and Shannon Hurd and husband Tim; three grandchildren, Lucy Cleek, Hannah Hurd, and Will Hurd; brother, Carroll Childress of Kingsport; sisters, Yvette Martin and husband Gary, and Wanda Childress, all of Kingsport; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Entombment services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Randall Wright officiating.
